How Can I Use the Geospatial Energy Mapper (GEM) GIS Mapping Tool?
The Geospatial Energy Mapper (GEM) is a publicly accessible GIS mapping tool that can help users create maps and explore spatial data needed for resource reports associated with the application process.
How the GEM Tool Can Support CITAP Applications
GEM allows users to upload project GIS files and overlay them with infrastructure, environmental, and land designation data to help develop maps for resource reports.
The tool includes preconfigured “Mapping Themes” that group related datasets together for common resource report topics. For example:
- “Electrical Infrastructure” includes transmission lines, substations, and power plants
- “Protected Areas” includes protected land and environmental datasets.
Users can also browse the “Layer Catalog” to add individual datasets, such as streams, wetlands, watersheds, or historic trails.
